An abundance of TV shows

Hello Readers,

Thanks to @thisisscoman I’m now a *huge* fan of Dexter – to the point that I can refer to myself in the presence of Sco as the ‘Lundy Fan girl’ Yes I love Lundy (If you don’t watch Dexter you have no idea what I’m talking about, if you do. I’m sure you’ll agree.) I think it’s to do with the fact that he’s an older dude, who can still pull the young chicks aka Deb. Now Deb is *smoking* hot and the actresses who plays the characters in this case Jennifer Carpenter is officially on my list of celeb’s I’d shag in a heart beat. The character she plays in reality is my ideal woman, she’s brunette, smart, sexy, and can hold her own and well looks good with a gun strapped to her hip. (Admit it everyone loves people either in uniform or some sort of profession where there’s a gun involved.) Gillian Anderson will always be my first ‘celeb’ love.

Basically I’ve been having ‘down time’ of an evening after writing and researching stuff for Uni all day and Dexter has been a really nice surprise and welcome relief, to switch off. Another show I’d been put onto by my friend @vonbunnie is Trueblood. Now I’d seen a couple of episodes of TrueBlood, but I either forgot it was on, or had missed a few too many episodes to catch up. So I’ve recently caught up and have been getting my ‘adult vampire’ on.

Add into that the usual stuff I watch regardless of the events going on around me. (That’s code for Doctor Who!) I’ve been enjoying my evening veg out. It’s a little ‘quicker’ than watching a whole movie. A 45 minute TV show just seems to fly by, perfect as the ‘switch off’ tonic needed after studying about various sociological ‘stuff’ throughout the day.

So this evening, I’m off to eat a meat pie and some hot chips, and watch more True Blood.

That’s all I’ve got.

I forgot about BEDA - Doctor Who

Last year I did BEDA (Blog every day in April) I'm only seven days into April before I remembered it was a blog entry per day. While I'm not sure if I'll get an entry in every day. I'll do my best to have a crack as they say... So here we go.....

Dling ding ding, dling ding ding, dling ding ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, dling ding ding……

The above is my attempt at the old theme tune to Doctor Who as the new one goes like this <………………………………………………….> Insert the sound of shit!

Yes blog readers. Doctor Who is back for its 5th season under the new format with Matt Smith new to the role of ‘The Doctor’ after the great David Tennant departed at Christmas. There’s been a shit load of hype surrounding new Who and I finally got to watch the new episode last night.

What did you think of it Sal? I can hear you all asking. Which is really nice of you to ask, because this blog is about my thoughts on the new Doctor Who!!!!

So started off with a ‘grab you by the throat scene’ (I LOVE those!!!) Grabs your attention and you think Fuck yes! Then roll intro credits. *Dun Dunnnnn* First fuck up is under way. They have taken the theme tune which is SO WELL KNOWN and well fucked it up considerably, not to mention the fucking intro titles! I mean WHY fucking change it? Sure change the logo as the logo was a little naff, but don’t fuck with the time vortex opening sequence OR the fucking theme tune!!!

*Rant with excessive use of the word fuck over*

The episode kinda looses momentum a little, but soon picks up and we get to see what usually happened when a Doctor regenerates, he’s confused, not sure what he is like or what he likes re food, etc and there’s a quite comedic scene where the lead tries various food, only to spit it out over and over again (Though that kinda got a little repetitive) Before he settles on fish fingers and custard. Quite the taste sensation I’m sure.

Then the threat is revealed. The Doctor is there to save the world, new companion who is a little ditzy for my liking, but I may warm to her over time. A spiral of witty lines, action, ranting and fast talking and you’re at the end of the episode and you’re left thinking FUCK YES Doctor who is back once again! :)

I’m a Doctor who fangirl from way back. I have been a fan since I was little and watching Tom Baker do his thing with his long scarf, so I was happy when I heard that they were brining it back in 2004. In 2010 we’ve had Doctors 9, 10 and now 11 do their thing, and if this first episode is anything to go by the combination of excellent writing / directing by Steven Moffat coupled with Matt Smith as the lead role. I seriously think this is going to be up to par with previous Doctors (All except Colin Baker who was SHIT!!!)

So if you’ve not been blessed with the world of Doctor Who I suggest you check it out. The new series had a huge budget so the special effects etc rock, the old series had some dodgy set work, but it was the story that mattered.

Go off and get you Who on!!!

That’s all I’ve got.

When should I feel like a grown up?

I sometimes wish that ‘uni mode’ was like a dome that moved down over your head (Kinda like those dryers old ladies get put on their heads when they are getting a perm) So that you a) you knew it was time to work hard and b) others around you knew you were in ‘uni mode’

I need that old lady dome bubble thing to descend upon me right now to literally give me a kick in the arse and get me into UNI MODE. I start back at Uni tomorrow and I’m still in holiday mode. Today I fucked about playing PS3 game demo's and watching Lost S5 and Skins S4. Both the aforementioned activities will NOT help me get my uni degree!

As you know I went to Brisbane in the week. I’d love to say I did this and that – but in reality I hooked up with two people whom I have a ‘friends with benefits’ scheme with and well had a lot of sex! I did manage to collect my mum and my aunt from the train station on the Thursday and take them both to see Cliff Richard and The Shadows perform live. (My mum is an epic fan of Cliff’s) I however love The Shadows and as a young self taught drummer. I listened to Brian Bennett (He’s the drummer) from The Shadows. So to see him perform live was one of the highlights of my life thus far.

Seeing Brian perform live made me want to buy another drumkit and get back into playing. (I sold my old one to pay the rent back in 2003) But then I think to myself for what? Every time I’ve been in a band we ALWAYS loose the bass player, either they have a ‘spaz’ and leave or they die *literally* (That’s another story!) I even contemplated getting an electronic kit which allows for 500+ different sounds to be played, it also allows for headphones so only I can hear what I’m playing (It’s never good to annoy the neighbours too much) But then reality hits me once again and I think to myself. What the fuck are you thinking? You’re too old for this shit grow up!. Speaking of growing up. (What a lovely segue there!)

It’s my birthday tomorrow. As previously stated in a post a few weeks back I will accept all gift vouchers any of you would like to bestow upon me ;) It is after all the thought that counts.

Regarding my birthday... I’m at a loss as to when I’ll be ‘grown up’? Do you hit a certain age , then think, right I’m a adult now? Because I don’t feel any different to when I was say 17 I was into movies, music, TV, video games, girls, and pissing about. The reality of it however is I’m NOT 17 any more. Whilst I know I’m much more mature than I was at 17. My mind still gets a kick out of slaying zombies in video games, and doing nothing all day other than lazing about watching TV like a teenager! (Maybe it’s mature ages Uni Student syndrome!)

So that brings me to the following question. At what point are we suppose to be ‘grown up’ Does it have to come with marriage and children? Because if it does, I’m never going to be grown up as I a) Don’t want to get married (Besides the fact that I legally can’t in Australia) and b) I have NO desire to have children. Does this mean I’ll be on here in 20 years time celebrating another birthday all excited that I got a special limited edition of the ‘retro’ Tomb Raider game? Or saying things like "I remember way back when Survivor first started in season one." As it celebrates its 250th season!

I’m getting older physically (which sucks in itself some days) but mentally I still dig Doctor Who as much now as I did as a seven year old, and I honestly can never see that changing (Unless they bring back Colin Baker which would majorly suck arse! Google him - he (Colin Baker) killed Doctor Who until McCoy bought it back from the dead!

So as I contemplate another change of the numbers that represent the time of my existence on this planet. I hope some of you can answer my question of ‘when should I feel like a grown up?’

That’s all I’ve got.

Happy New Year :) Welcome to 2010

Alright I know I'm a little late - What's five days between friends. Technically I would have been 'back' today! So don't be moaning :P I've avoided blogging / the internet / twitter etc as I didn't want to get spoilered (Is that a word?) regarding David Tennant's final episode in Doctor Who. So I went into anti-net mode communicating only through text messages.

I've since seen the episode. Loved it, will miss David Tennant as The Doctor - but am looking forward to seeing Matt Smith as Eleven.

My new years resolutions (NYR). I don't really have any this year, other than to finish editing my novel, and try to get it looked at (Read: published!) My other NYR is to simply pass Uni this year. I'm done with the eating healthy, drink more water shit. I'm getting along with what I eat and drink at the moment. I can't see why I should increase or degrease any of it.

So with a 'super quick' Happy New Year post. I'll head off and start on my NYR - editing my novel.

That's all I've got.

I've had three nights of out there dreams though they have all been pretty exciting. I love sleep when I have super realistic dreams. One contained how the 10th incarnation of The Doctor in Doctor Who will regenerate into number eleven. I e-mailed some of my 'Who' friends telling them about the dream. We're waiting now to see if Russell T Davies has managed to lock into my subconscious to help aid his ideas :P

The other side of these dreams have been the re-occurrence of one of my Ex girlfriends. Now I've not seen nor heard from this particular Ex in about six years. So to have three nights back to back with dreams that contain her, well it's clearly put her in my thoughts which I'm not overly happy about as it wasn't the best relationship I've ever had, and when I think of her I think of the shit things that happened, which then snowball into anger and it just pisses me off.

I've got a friend who interprets dreams. I've sent her an e-mail asking her about it all as it's clearly got under my skin. She's super busy with her life, so I don't expect a reply back any time soon. However when or if she does get back to me I'll be sure to put an update on here.

Other news is I've got to re-read Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. As when I went to answer the questions for the unit I couldn't remember any of it. It was as though I missed a great chunk of the book that the questions have been produced from. I struggled to read it the first time as it's pretty heave going between slipping between reality and past memories. So maybe a second read will help me to understand it better. So if you're wondering what I'll be doing for the next day or two.. I'll be reading Mrs Dalloway. I'll post tomorrow how I'm going with it. It's only 170 pages though they are hard going pages let me tell you!

I'm off to take my dog for a walk before it starts to rain again - the storm clouds are building up in the sky outside my window and the sky is turning a gun metal grey, complete with rumbling thunder...

That's all I've got.

I got an e-mail today asking me ‘who are you?’ It was someone I’ve not got an e-mail from before, however that was it - The subject was I've seen your blog. The body was simply 'Who are you?' – so I replied I’m Sal. Who are you?

I’ve not got a reply back yet, though if it was some spamming thing needing me to reply to it to send my e-mail address off into the world of spamville then my e-mail address has probably just been sent to every Viagra spam site available. I always seem to get the Viagra spam which I have no use for as I haven’t got a penis! Anyway the random e-mail question made me think. So here is some useless information about me – without really giving anything away.

Name: Sal
Gender: Female
Resides: Australia
Height: 5’5” (Go easy on the short jokes!)
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Short and dark brown.
Tattoos: Right ankle and down my right calf. (Want more though!)
Likes: Writing, music, movies, books, photography, cups of tea, chocolate biscuits, the colour blue, Doctor Who and Sci-fi in general.
Dislikes: Stalkers, liars, a few of my ex-girlfriends, homophobic people, people who don’t know what an indicator light on their car is for, rudeness, spitting, grocery shopping.
Favourite Possession: My boxer dog (See profile pic)

Does that little list kind of qualify for ‘who am I?’ Either way there’s a little insight into the world known as ‘Just Sal

That’s all I’ve got.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Yeah four days late what can I say… I've no excuses. I do however have a total new respect for Britney Spears… Seriously!! Or maybe it’s just that her song “Circus” is what gets *all* the girls up on the dance floor and allows for random snogging :) I’m going with the abundance of tongue action for my new found respect for Britney :P

So new years has come and gone. I managed to dance with various women whom I have no clue what their names are and three random snogs. So overall a good nite. :) Though the city does open you up for more opportunity for a win on I have to say. I miss Brisbane and well I'll move back there as soon as I finish Uni and get a job.

The big news buzzing around the net today is one Mr Matt Smith. The new Doctor Who though we won’t see him in the role until 2010 so I’m still not sure why they revealed him so early – maybe so the BBC had the say on when he was announced instead of it leaking in the press. I think he looks quite nice. Got Tennant’s hair which is a plus and well it isn’t Rhys Ifans! *Thank fuck* I’m sorry but when I heard that Rhys was a possible contender for the role of the 11th incarnation of The Doctor I was just *groan* Rhys played a great role in Notting hill as Hugh Grants dodgy flatmate – I found his performance fit the role well. However as The Doctor I just think he would have been shithouse and I went as far to make the statement on a Facebook group I’m in to say if Rhys was to get the part I’d not watch it as I couldn’t face watching the bloke massacre the role – I’d be waiting for him to jump out of the door with his ‘blood’ t-shirt on!

On a totally different note – a very good friend of mine has been put onto life support after an operation he had last week – Early indications seem to be he’s got septicaemia (Blood poisoning) Because I’m not family I can’t visit. His mum is keeping me updated. I just hope he pulls through this as he’s far to young to die.

So as the internet goes into Matt Smith hysteria.

That’s all I’ve got.
