Procrastination is my middle name

I’ve got a list of things I’ve got to get done, but I just can’t be arsed to do them. Which isn’t a god attitude to have seeing as I’ve got five weeks until I’m back at uni (Then I’ll know what busy is!) I’d like to have my Novel edited and well in a ‘good place’ before I go back to school. However my best intentions seem to just float away with the day.

For instance today I did the following:

Got out of bed
Make breakfast (Honey on Toast)
Had a cup of tea (Vital for the start of my day!)
Put two loads of washing on
Read some of Orpheus Lost (Compulsory book for Uni this Semester)
Made pasta bake for lunch
Ate pasta bake
Read some more (Got a little bored)
Spent the afternoon watching TV
Pulled in washing and folded it
Re-heated leftovers for dinner
Currently writing this blog before contemplating watching a movie.

NO WHERE in there is ‘edit or read through novel’ I’m seriously needing a self kick in the arse right now. I need to be stronger with my motivation. I need to push myself. An hour of editing in the morning, and an hour in the afternoon. OR two hours before lunch then have the afternoon to do whatever. If I try and go with this (Starting Monday as I’m out all day tomorrow) and actually make some head way (I’m yet to actually finish the book!) I’ll feel better about my self and the direction I’m NOT going right now!

So starting Monday the 11th of January 2010. I plan to edit for a minimum of two hours a day. By the end of the first week (Friday) I’ll have 10hrs of editing done, and HOPEFULLY this will put a decent dent in the editing process.

So… to enable me to do this successfully bloggers. I will write an entry each evening this week. With an update on how my editing is going, / gone. How the story is progressing. This will be good therapy for me, I see it as taking that first step to removing procrastination from my life right now. There’s a time to act and there’s time to procrastinate. Procrastination needs to be earned, and I’ve NOT earned it right now.

On a totally different topic. I’ve been asked to be a ‘guest’ writer in February for Scoman. I am proud to say I’ve taken up the offer. So watch this space in a few weeks time. I’ll link to my ‘guest blog spot’ and you can share the love with Scoman also.

That’s all I’ve got

Change is as good as a holiday *Cliché number one* so they say. I'd still like a holiday though. I've gone from the deep depressive black layout for this blog to this new colour template. I'm not sure what I think of it yet, if it's not grown on me by BEDA post #20 I'll change it again.

I'm on here writing this when I should be doing readings for Uni. I am the queen of procrastination, and I'll only have myself to blame when I fall behind, or fail this semester. My heart just dosen't seem to be in it this time round :( Last year was tough, but I really enjoyed it. This year, it just seems, like a chore somehow. Though don't get me wrong - it sure beats the hell out of working 9-5 (With the exception of the money thing!) But money can't buy you happiness *Cliché number two*

It's just gone 12pm here - so I'll get this posted, wander off and see what I can find to eat for lunch, then get into this reading. Properly Which means I'll have to turn my computer off, as it's like a distraction magnet right now. I just spent half an hour checking out all the places I've lived in, in Brisbane on google maps! Talk about time wasting, it was interesting though :)

That's all I've got.

Procrastination

If there was a masters degree in it. I'd have that Phd bit at the end of my name. Just Sal Phd in Procrastination.

I start off with the best intentions. Then I get online and a void sucks me in and I just wander off and check out none related Uni sites kinda like this one ;P I just can't seem to find the motivation required to put my head down arse up and study. I've got those five books to get through and I'm slightly concerned that I just can't seem to get into it. When I say 'it' I mean Uni in general.

I've also got a 3000 word creative piece that I have to workshop in two weeks. I'm not 100% sure where I'm going to pull 3000 words from right now. Though the idea I have is quite solid in my mind, and the research I've done so far on the storyline is coming along nicely. I even managed to jot down some points at 2am this morning when I couldn't sleep due to the revealers in the park with their doof doof music playing at a high volume before a large fight broke out and broken glass seemed to be shattering a lot. Perhaps a volley of bottles where thrown at each group. I'm not sure. The street this morning is quite dishevelled and well the council was out cleaning the street when I checked the post.

So plan for this weekend:
Get the tempest read.
Get back into Jane Eyre.
Make Muffins. Mmmmm Muffins
Try and get some solid groundwork completed of the 3000 words creative piece.
Do homework for Prose class for Monday
Watch the kick arse movie on TV this evening called The guardian.

That's all I've got.
